Doug and I have decided to self quarantine ourselves upon returning for 14 days. We both feel fine now but would be sick if we brought home the Coronavirus and spread it through the lower mainland.
Hi Doug & Nancy, I have been following your blog and have really enjoyed your descriptive narratives. It's very unfortunate however that the virus has happened right in the middle of your vacation. Hopefully it hasn't spoiled things for you. I have noticed that there are very few occurrences in Africa vs more northern countries, so that's a good thing. But I think you are wise to be thinking about the virus and the possibility of sharing it once you are back home. Hopefully it will be an unnecessary precaution, but it is understandable. Take care and stay safe! Don
Thanks, Don and nice to hear from you. This virus business has got us spooked a bit. Two nights ago, we overnighted at hotel attached to Johannesburg airport and seriously considered cutting the trip short and simply coming home. I tried calling British Airways to see what some options might be but was not even put on hold. They are simply overwhelmed with requests so message is to try later. We called our embassy in Pretoria and they were quite good. Best course is to proceed as planned as as you have noted, Don, so far very few cases in Africa. So . . we are now in Botswana as I will describe in next post. - Doug
Hi Doug, I am not sure what news you receive while on your vacation, but just so you know, the USA is not accepting inbound flights from Europe and probably other selected countries, but Canada has NOT followed suit. Inbound flights however may be routed to a few specific airports across Canada where thorough screening facilities will be set up. If I hear more I will let you know.
